U4/A2 - Video Guide to accompany the video 'The French Revolution, Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité'
We will watch this video starting on Monday, Nov 26. We will continue multiple days, finishing it by no later than Fri. Nov. 30. Whenever we finish and have some time to share and check answers in class, that is when the video guide will be due.
|
|
These videos 'adDRESS' how folks in that era dressed themselves (or others). There are no assignments with these, they just seemed interesting and kind of cool for showing an aspect of daily life from the era we're not studying. Enjoy!

U4/A3 - Paragraph Comparing American and French Revolutions (and Gallery Walk to Prep for writing it)
On Friday we did a gallery walk to prep for writing a paragraph about whether or not, or in what ways, the American and French Revolutions were similar or connected. The paragrah will be written on the hand-out at right. It is due on Tuesday.
One of the stations had 4 articles that compared and connected the revolutions. Those 4 articles are available below. |

U4/A5 French Revolution Notes -
Phases of, Core/Periphery, Nationalism, and Napoleon
We will take these notes soon. If you can fit them on the back of the last page of the French Revolution packet, that would be ideal, but if you need more paper that's fine--staple additional sheet(s) to the back of the packet.
The video below is a good warm-up to the French Revolution Notes and focuses on nationalism.
Here's the notes guide.
|
The video below not only covers Napoleon but generally reviews some key aspects of the French Revolution.
It presents two views of Napoleon, as if he is on trial. One view is listing his wrong-doings/crimes, and the other defends his actions. It can be a little confusing to bounce between the two sides, but if you know what is going on ahead of time, it's easier. |
For the French Revolution Notes, the items that are not crossed out of thepie chart on slide 1 should go in the corresponding parts of your notes guide's pie chart. The information on the next slide should go somewhere near the pie chart--but not down in the lower left corner. The third slide's information goes in that lower left corner, and then the nationalism info goes on the back at the top.
The Napoleon Notes goes in on the back, in the middle of the page.

U4/A6 - Practice Questions packetThis packet was also handed out on (TBA). It was also due (TBA). Students should answer the practice questions as much/best as they are able, then check answers vs. the answer keys for each set. We went over the crossword in class on (TBA).
|
U4/A7 - BLUE Packet re Latin American Independence, etc.
This packet will be handed out on (TBA) due on (TBA).
Because questions about the map on the back are hard to answer without seeing the color version of that map, students can skip those and do them in class using a projected color version of the map, OR they can use the version at right.

U4/A8 - Latin American Revolutions (notes from PowerPoint)
We will take notes on the set of slides at right, in PowerPoint format, on Tuesday, Dec. 12 and Wednesday, Dec. 13.
On the back of the 'Latin American Revolution PwrPt Notes Gde.' there was a reading, 'World Revolutions of 1789, 1848, and 1968'. We read it and answered 3 questions (on notebook paper when done in class, but on the '3 Qns.' hand-out below if doing now). Staple the '3 Qns.' answers to the map when you turn it in.

Click on the image above or on those at right that slide up/down, to move through the slide show.

U4/A9 - Video gde: Égalité for All-Toussaint Louverture &
The Haitian Revolution
We started watching this on Thursday, Dec. 14. We continued and finished on Friday Dec. 15. There is a video guide on green paper.
|
The slide show below shows the fort where Toussaint Louverture was taken after he was captured, and the cell where he spent his last few months.
How does it's location compare with where Napoleon spent his final exile, on St. Helena?

Extra Credit Option for this Unit
'Time of Terror' 5 points are possible for this--if you get through all the questions, and after we (briefly) chat about how it went, etc. (forgot to mention that in class--sorry if that's a deal breaker, but it is a required part of the exercise).
For this extra credit option, you read excerpts from a historical novel set in Paris during the Reign of Terror. The main character is a young ship's captain on a secret mission for Great Britain by flooding France with counterfeit French currency. This is meant to undermine the revolutionary government of France.
In addition to fictional characters the novel features real historical figures. I hope you'll find enough explanation in the hand-out (there's a plot summary and a brief description for each of the major characters) to enjoy the excerpts. Be sure to print out both the excerpts and the questions about them.
