Social Studies Department Guide to Research and Writing
This is the Pioneer High Social Studies Department guide for research and writing. It addresses many issues and aspects of the research and writing process, from choosing a topic and evaluating sources to how to properly cite sources and list them in a bibliography. It was prepared by form Pioneer Social Studies teacher Jessica Stock. (Jess, you rock!)
Different classes in different years focus on developing different sets of skills, but all social studies classes at Pioneer have this as a resource to guide students in their research and writing exercises. How a particular teacher uses this will be communicated to students by that teacher.
In World History and Geography we focus on citing sources in in-text citations (following MLA guidelines) and using those sources to support an 'argument', as well as how to prepare/format a bibliography (also according to MLA rules).
